We launched the Learn & Eat Project
Thursday 12 July saw the official opening of our new training initiative Learn & Eat. It took the form of an all-day meeting at the Kraków office, during which employees took part in presentations and workshops. The event sparked a great deal of interest. It proved to be a very relevant and successful initiative!

“The themes were chosen so as to allow the greatest number of people to join in. We did this by offering different levels and forms of training” said Daniel Pokusa, Technical Team Leader at Onwelo, whose idea it was to hold the first all-day, Learn & Eat session.
Rafał Kilanowski gave a presentation entitled Spring Data for MongoDB: Tips & Tricks. It turned out to be a massive know-how boost for everybody with Spring Data MongoDB in their project that wants to write highly productive queries.

The topic that Bartłomiej Jendyk grappled with during his presentation was Salad Vegetables to the Rescue: taking the misery – or even the mizeria – out of UI automation with the help of cucumber.js. Bartek demonstrated the practical applications of the cucumber.js tool when it comes to writing automatic tests for UI.
Sebastian Opacki, meanwhile, spoke about how to test without going mad in the process. Referring to practical examples of the application of unit tests, he gave his audience an insight into the TDD approach.

The last item on the menu was the workshop Kubernetes from Scratch, which was led by Paweł Młynarczyk. During the three-hour session participants were given the chance to correctly configure a local work environment with Kubernetes, to implement their own modules in two or three different ways based on example Docker images and to develop an automatic-restart application in the event of problems.
In the between-sessions break all participants were invited to sit down together for a light meal. As well as training, Learn & Eat is also about getting to know each other and strengthening relationships within the team.

There are many specialists at Onwelo who are more than willing to share their extensive knowledge. We are building an event aimed at honing skills and creating a space for sharing experiences and team integration. I think I can say after the inaugural Learn & Eat meeting yesterday that we are going in the right direction to achieving the goals we have set ourselves – said Anna Bogucka, HR Director at Onwelo.

We are delighted at the strong interest shown in the first meeting and we are already preparing to hold events of this type in other Onwelo locations. All employees who want to share their knowledge are invited to become one of our internal trainers.
